Description
8mm Solid Brass Rings: 500g of solid brass rings in yellow-golden color. These rings should be combined with 8mm riveted brass rings because solid rings can not be linked alone.
How to use 8mm Flat Brass Rings? These rings are typically used to add decorations to 8mm iron ring meshes like the 8mm chainmail sheets. Most often such decorations are the lines along the bottom hem of mail armour. This package includes about 1000 rings. Around the bottom hem of a chainmail shirt, you will need about 200 rings for one line. Around the sleeves, you will need about 2 x 30 rings for one line. Some people like to use these 8mm brass rings for fantasy brass chainmail or shirts with a pattern.
What about quality? There are about ten percent of rings that I would sort out. Such rings have chipped-off edges. That is not a big problem and to some degree, historic rings have irregular edges as well. You may also find a few smaller-sized brass rings in the package. Yet overall this batch of 8mm solid brass rings is pretty good and we aim to make it continuously better.
What about historical accuracy? Brass rings had been in use since almost the beginning of mail armor. Medieval craftsmen were using them as well. Brass rings survive better in the ground than iron rings. Thus they are easier to study for archeologists. They are also referred to as latten rings in literature when the exact alloy composition is unclear.
This helps you create riveted and solid brass meshes together with 8mm riveted brass rings. It’s quicker, lighter, and more ressourcefully than only using riveted rings.
